Certain content is Copyright 1994, 1996 Aztech New Media Corp. THANK YOU for purchasing Aztech New Media's "World PhotoCube" Personal Stock Image Library. Aztech's World PhotoCube is the most comprehensive annotated collection of hard-to-get, royalty- and license-free(*) multimedia resolution TIFF-format photo images ever offered on CD-ROM for the Mac and Windows. ********************************************************************************************* TO BEGIN USING FOR PC: The Kudo application and all the catalogues reside only on disc 6. Insert the CD into your CD-ROM drive and type GO. Follow the installer instructions. Every time after installation look for the Kudo Program group in Windows and run. Insert whatever disc is asked for by Kudo. NOTE TO PC USERS: It was not possible to put the 21.5 MB catalogue onto every CD - there wasn't enough space. Therefore, whenever you use Kudo (only on disc 6) and wish to preview an image (by double-clicking on that image), you will be asked to insert the correct disc (unless the desired image is on disc 6 in which case the image will be automatically displayed). BEFORE you preview another image you must FIRST put Disc 6 back into your CD-ROM drive. Also, if you wish to preview the image in a larger format than "thumbnail" then select "image" from the pull-down menu then select "Display Original". If you double-click on a thumbnail, Kudo will attempt to load whatever application you own and which is "associated" with a "TIF" type file. For example, Kudo may try to start up Corel's PhotoPaint, Adobe's Photoshop or Microsoft Paint. If there is no "TIF" association or the application no longer exists that used to be "associated" with TIF files, then you will be asked to look for it. Just cancel and use the "Display Original" feature described earlier. *********************************************************************************************** TO BEGIN USING FOR MAC: The Fetch application is on every CD. WHILE HOLDING DOWN THE "ALT Option" KEY, insert the desired CD (or any CD) into your CD-ROM drive. Then double-click on the Fetch application or drag-and-drop one of the Fetch catalogues on top of the Fetch application. There are some incompatibilities between the old file system of earlier Mac operating systems and more recent Mac/OS versions. Holding down the "ALT Option" key while inserting the CD into your CD-ROM drive ensures that the proper file name is associated with the Fetch thumbnail image. If you do not hold down the option key while mounting the CD, you will still be able to view all the thumbnails but when you double-click on an image, you will not be able to view it in its larger format. *********************************************************************************************** The World PhotoCube is ideally suited to graphic artists and designers, corporate communications/media departments, desktop publishers, educators, printers, pre-press firms, and multimedia producers. They can add incredible impact to any presentation, brochure, advertisement, marketing literature, business card, product packaging, POP displays, editorials, manuals, etc. with the unsurpassed quality content of this collection. Images range from lineups in Russia and rare South American museum artifacts to Easter Island monuments and Japanese panoramas. This beautiful and exotic collection is widely recognized as one of the finest values for photo images in the global market. OVERVIEW The World PhotoCube Multimedia Collection contains over 3,000 72 dpi, 24-bit RGB, noncompressed TIFF images, each averaging about 1.2 MB, and all suitable for screen display and small image printing. All images are noncompressed TIFF format using the universal ISO 9660 standard for CD-ROM. This permits any CD-ROM disc in the World PhotoCube Collection to be read by either Macintosh or MS-DOS-compatible machines. It also means all these images are also import-able by almost all image-handling applications available in those same computing environments. Over 3,000 hard-to-find photo images from over 40 countries have been compiled into one massive collection and cross-indexed against 22 general categories, including: 75 Cities 141 Animals 38 Food 488 People 83 Backgrounds & Textures 186 Plants 84 Sports 485 Ruins 147 Artifacts/Relics 225 Panoramas 959 Buildings 80 Mood Shots 82 Icons, Great 127 Transportation 319 South America 570 North America 755 Europe 555 Pacific Rim 333 Asia 291 Middle East 358 Religion 315 South Atlantic The numbers represent the approximate number of images in each category and collectively total more than the total number of physical images since some images are applicable to more than one category. The World PhotoCube Collection images are organized alphabetically by country on each CD as follows: Argentina Aruba Australia Bahamas Brazil Canada Chile China Costa Rica Cuba Denmark Easter Island Egypt England Finland France Greece Holland Hong Kong India Indonesia Israel Italy Jamaica Japan Macau Malaysia Mexico Peru Philippines Russia St. Kitts St. Lucia Singapore Scotland Spain Switzerland Thailand Turkey Ukraine United States All the images are annotated with a brief description. They are also keyword selectable. Included for Macintosh users is the browser version of Fetch (TM), Aldus Corporation's mixed media cataloguing, browsing and retrieval tool. See the Macnotes.Txt file for more details on its use and features. For PC Windows users Aztech has included Kudo For Windows, a full-featured browser and manager with a variety of powerful search and display capabilities. The catalogues for all the images (for Mac & PC) have already been compiled for your benefit. Each CD in The World PhotoCube is packaged in protective CD "jewel cases" thus providing a measure of added protection as well as a place for storage for each CD. OTHER FACTS Including the "printable" version on 24 additional CD's (which may be ordered separately, the total World PhotoCube Collection comprises over 15,000 megabytes (15 GB!) and required over 120,000 MB of backup capability, using mostly 8 mm Exabyte. Aztech utilized 12 high-performance computing machines over a standard Ethernet backbone in order to create and assemble this collection. Machine configurations included 3 Quadra 950's, 1 Quadra 900, 1 Quadra 800 and 2 MS-DOS-compatible 486/66 PC's. Total RAM (memory) for all the machines was in excess of 550 MB. A Kodak Prophecy System was used to color-correct all the high-resolution images in the High Resolution Printable Image Collection. 2 double-speed compact disc recorders (CD-R) were employed to create the pre-masters. THE WORLD PHOTOPHILE COLLECTION, PRINT VERSION The World Photophile Collection, Printable version is the high-resolution version of the World PhotoCube and is available directly from Aztech. The images are identical to the World PhotoCube except tha they are much larger in size and have been specifically prepared for high-resolution print output. Each image is 32-bit, CMYK (ie. already color-separated), color-corrected, noncompressed TIFF at 300 dpi giving a 150 line screen. This series comprises 24 CD which are divided into two editions. Edition 1 has the first half of the images (1,500 or so, countries Argentina through first half of Hong Kong) and edition 2 has the second half (second half of Hong Kong through United States). ***************************************************************************************** ***************************************************************************************** Aztech reserves the right to change specifications to any of its products without notice. ***************************************************************************************** ***************************************************************************************** COMPANY OVERVIEW Organization Name: Aztech New Media Corp. Aztech has introduced two 10-CD-ROM software bundle packs called Publishers' Pick Blue and Publishers' Pick Green, five 7-CD-ROM "Cube" trademarked compilations and five 4-CD- ROM "Album" trademarked packs. Recently, Aztech introduced a 48-CD series titled The Home@Office Suite featuring such titles as Harvard Graphics, Hutchinson Multimedia Encyclopedia, Peter Norton's Windows 95 Tutorial, Pressworks, 1st Design, Bizforms, Maximizer, and Xerox's TextBridge. This collection comprises everything one might need to produce a printed item or multimedia presentation. Aztech manufactures under license every title in every pack. A particularly popular multi-pack targeted specifically for Macintosh owners includes such titles as The 7th Guest, Harpoon II, and Dragon's Lair. After producing its first few shareware titles in 1992, Aztech acquired the rights to manufacture The Case of the Cautious Condor and Murder Makes Strange Deadfellows, two of the world's first truly interactive, award-winning, comic book-styled murder mysteries. Aztech's most ambitious project was The PhotoPhileTM World Stock Image Library, a 31-CD set of high-resolution photographic images from 40 countries around the world, and cross-referenced by 22 thematic categories. It was over six months in the making. The Photophile Library was the world's first, and still is the world's largest, compilation of annotated, printable quality, color-corrected photographic images ever offered on CD-ROM. The Photophile Library is about 18 gigabytes (18 billion bytes) in size. The tape backup requirements during development were about half a terabyte (0.5 trillion bytes). Aztech's products have been well-received in the global marketplace. In lateSpring, 1994, Aztech developed a European top-ten 12-CD collection titled, TheHome Entertainment and Professional Multimedia Collection. In the first six weeks of introduction, over 100,000 cd's were sold from this collection. Two other titles have sold over 70,000 and 100,000 copies respectively in less than six months of each title's release. Series 1 of The Cube was rated in the top 15 for over 5 months in 1995 on the Bestseller List of New Media Magazine, achieving #12 in August 1995. Aztech currently has distributors in 25 countries including Canada, the United States, the U.K., Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Holland, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Japan and more.
